Frequently Asked Questions
Why do the children stay with the parents for part of the service?
We value children as an integral part of our congregation and we want them to grow into worshipping God with their families. For this reason our children participate in the first part of the service, which includes singing and a special children's chat with the pastor. After that time, the children are dismissed to enjoy God's Word presented at an age-appropriate level.
Do I have to send my child to the children's program?
Not necessarily. While we have a very dynamic children's program, there may be a reason you would like to keep your child with you for the service. We are a family-friendly church and welcome children in the service. We have notebooks with coloring sheets and activities for your child; inquire at the children's check-in table. Why are you part of a denomination?
Hope Church was started through the vision, prayers and support of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). Today we are a self-supporting, self-governing member church of this denomination. This provides us with a system of financial and theological accountability while giving us the freedom to do ministry that is appropriate for our context and community. Please check out the EPC website for more information, www.epc.org.
Why don't you pass an offering basket?
At Hope Church the offering time in our service is to be used by individuals as a time to offer themselves to God through confession of sin, meditation upon His Word, reflection upon His love, and the commitment of our time and money to His work. We are more interested in your heart than your money. Therefore, we do not pass an offering basket, but simply have collection boxes in the back of the service area for those wishing to make a financial offering to God's work at our church. What are your plans for building?
If it is God's will, we will eventually build on a piece of land we now own at the corner of Redland Road and Loop 1604. While it would be wonderful to have our own building, it is important that we take care of the vision first. The church is made up of its people, not bricks and mortar. We hope to build, but not before we are ready to handle this responsibility. We currently have a team of members who are planning the building process, but no timeline has been set.How can I contact the pastors?
Please contact our pastors at any time with any questions you may have by phoning the Hope Church office, (210) 545-4673, or sending an email. How can I get involved at Hope Church?
We encourage involvement at Hope. Our ministry teams include: children's ministry, set-up, sound, prayer, outreach, urban ministry, missions, small groups, hospitality, worship and women's ministry. Take a look at the Hope Happenings table or contact the church office. How do I become a member?
Our Discover Hope small group is open to anyone but is required for membership. It runs for about six weeks and is scheduled several times a year, usually in the evenings. This class covers topics such as our essential Christian beliefs, the vision of Hope Church and how we are structured.Printer Friendly Format
